Keely, do you remember that clip that we watched in class where they were asking what words people used for different things - soda/coke/pop, etc? Dialect is when people use terms or language that is specific to their area, but it's not a COMPLETELY different language. It's kinda like how people from the South tend to say things like, "y'all," while people from the Northeast tend to say things like "you guys." Does that make sense?
My assement is on how to make pancakes. If I say: If you turn over the pancake while it not done cooking it will be a pile of mush. Is that a metaphor? Maddie 3/4
I've looked in my notes and on blackboard and still don't understand "Dialect." Can you please try to help me understand it?

DeleteThanks you, I think I understand it a little better.
ReplyDeleteLook up soda/coke/pop and you should be able to find it.
DeleteDo we have to use a simile and a metaphor on our adverb assessment?

Yep. Look at your rubric sheet!
DeleteIs the yellow fish dead? I haven't seen him.
ReplyDeleteNope, he's there in the bubble!
DeleteI just noticed that the fish will follow your mouse if there isn't food in the tank.
ReplyDeleteThat's because they're hungry!
DeleteIs pecan a type of dialect? If so can I use it in my adverb assessment? Maddie 3/4
ReplyDeleteKind of. It's hard to show that one, because it's purely the pronunciation of the word, but I'll let it slide for the purpose of this assessment.
Deletedoes "Badly" count as one of your adverbs? or is that something else
ReplyDeleteYep, it does! As long as you're using it to describe a verb, adjective, or adverb!
DeleteMy assement is on how to make pancakes. If I say: If you turn over the pancake while it not done cooking it will be a pile of mush. Is that a metaphor? Maddie 3/4
ReplyDeleteNope, because the pancake will literally be a pile of mush. In order for it to be a metaphor, it can't be literally true.
DeleteHow much money did 7/8 block raise for the All For Books competition.
